Which warm cities keep a full New York working day?

The Andean block

Colombia, Ecuador and Peru all sit on UTC-5 permanently. From November to March that is New York time exactly. It is the reason Medellín became a remote-work city in the first place, and the reason the pattern spread to Bogotá, Lima, Quito and Cuenca.

The cheap end of it is worth knowing about. Baños in Ecuador is $900 a month with an internet score of 3.4. Cuenca at $1,000 scores 3.8 for internet and 4.0 for safety, which is higher on both counts than Bogotá manages for safety (3.0) at $1,200.

Safety is where this region needs reading carefully rather than dismissing. Our safety scores across the Colombian cities on this list run from 2.9 to 3.4, against 3.2 to 4.0 in Ecuador and 4.1 to 4.4 in Panama. Panama is the quiet winner on that measure and nobody talks about it.

The summer shift, and why it is the opposite of the London problem

When the clocks change in the United States in March, New York moves an hour earlier relative to UTC. Countries that do not follow suit — which is all of the Andes, all of Central America and the Caribbean except the Bahamas — end up an hour behind New York rather than level with it. The overlap falls to 7h.

Seven hours of a New York day still covers 09:00 to 16:00 in New York, which is where essentially all American meetings live. In practice you gain an hour of morning and lose an hour of late afternoon, which most people prefer. This is the rare case where the seasonal shift makes life easier rather than harder.

The exceptions that never shift are Panama, which is permanently UTC-5 and therefore permanently one hour off New York in summer, and the Bahamas, Canada and the eastern United States, which change with New York and stay aligned all year.

If your clients are on the west coast instead

Everything moves three hours. Mexico City at $1,500 and Oaxaca at $1,100 become the obvious answers, along with Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua, where León and Ometepe run about $900 a month. Central America is the west-coast equivalent of what the Andes are for the east coast: same clock, a third of the price.

The Caribbean option, and what it costs

Jamaica and the Bahamas both hold a full New York day. Port Antonio at $1,500 is the cheapest Caribbean entry; the Bahamas start at $2,400 and climb quickly. Jamaica is permanently UTC-5 so it drifts an hour in summer; the Bahamas follow the American calendar and never do.

This is the part of the list where you pay roughly double the Andean price for the same time zone in exchange for being on a beach in a country with direct flights to the United States. Whether that is worth it is not something a table can tell you.
