The 25 with the strongest programmes are ranked below. 13 of them set no income requirement at all; the rest ask for between US$820 and US$2,700 a month.

What changed in 2026 — checked 6 August 2026

Nomad-visa rules moved a lot in the last twelve months, and most lists on the web have not caught up. Everything below was verified against primary and current sources this month.

Rule changes

South Korea made its F-1-D workation visa permanent on 30 June 2026 and stretched the maximum stay from two years to three. New this round: applicants aged 18–34 who settle outside Greater Seoul qualify at half the usual income bar (1× per-capita GNI, about US$3,080/month, instead of 2×).
Taiwan quietly turned its 6-month nomad visa into a 2-year one: since 8 January 2026 it can be extended three times in 6-month blocks. Income test: US$40,000/year if you are 30+, US$20,000/year at 20–29 — or simply holding another country's nomad visa.
Japan raised visa fees on 1 July 2026 for the first time since 1978 — ¥15,000 single entry, ¥30,000 multiple, up from ¥3,000/¥6,000. The visa itself is unchanged: 6 months, ¥10 million/year income, no extension.
Estonia lifted its income requirement to €4,500/month gross for 2026 (it sat at €3,504 for years — most guides still print the old figure), and a new 2% security tax pushes income tax to 24% if you stay past 183 days.
Spain now asks for €2,849/month (200% of the minimum wage set in February 2026). Guides quoting €2,646 are using the 2024 wage.
Portugal's D8 threshold rose to €3,680/month in January 2026 — four times the new €920 minimum wage. It moves every January.
Croatia permits now run 18 months (not the 12 you will still see quoted), at €2,539/month, but you cannot renew back-to-back — six months out before reapplying.
Mexico's temporary-resident income bar climbed again with the 2026 UMA rise — consulates now typically ask for around US$4,400/month, roughly triple what 2023-era guides claim.

New programs since late 2025

Slovenia (21 November 2025): one year, not extendable, income of twice the Slovenian average net salary; reapply after six months away.
Bulgaria (applications open January 2026): one year and renewable, income about €31,000/year pegged at 50× the monthly minimum wage, Schengen mobility, and eligibility for the 10% flat tax.
Sri Lanka (February 2026): up to one year, renewable, US$2,000/month income plus US$500/month per dependent, US$500 annual fee.
Philippines: the visa created by Executive Order 86 is rolling out through embassies, but no official income threshold has been published yet — treat any figure you read (including the circulating “$24,000/year”) as unconfirmed and check with your embassy.

Worth double-checking before you apply

UAE (Dubai): the published bar is still US$3,500/month for employees, but since 27 January 2026 you must show six consecutive months of bank statements (up from three), and there are unconfirmed reports of a rise toward US$5,000. Verify at application.
Qatar still has no digital nomad visa, despite aggregator sites listing one — remote workers use standard visitor routes. What Qatar did launch in February 2026 is an expanded 10-year Golden Visa, which is a different thing entirely.
Thailand's DTV is unchanged on paper (THB 500,000 in liquid savings, five years, 180 days per entry) but embassies now enforce a three-month seasoning period on the funds, and every arrival needs the online Thailand Digital Arrival Card since May 2025.

Income thresholds tied to local minimum or average wages (Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia) reset every year — if you are reading this in 2027, expect the European numbers above to have moved again.
